ReplyDeleteBoxing, also called pugilism, is a combat sport and martial art in which two people fight using their fists for competition. Boxing is typically supervised by a referee engaged in during a series of one- to three-minute intervals called rounds, and boxers generally of similar weight. There are four ways to win; if the opponent is knocked out and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten seconds (a knockout, or KO) or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue (a Technical Knockout, or TKO), if an opponent is disqualified for breaking a rule, or if there is no stoppage of the fight before an agreed number of rounds, a winner is determined either by the referee's decision or by judges' scorecards.
ReplyDeleteFist fighting depicted in Sumerian relief carvings from the 3rd millennium BC, while an ancient Egyptian relief from the 2nd millennium BC depicts both fist-fighters and spectators.[1] Both depictions show bare-fisted contests.[1] In 1927 Dr. E. A. Speiser, an archaeologist, discovered a Mesopotamian stone tablet in Baghdad, Iraq depicting two men getting ready for a prize fight. The tablet is believed to be 7,000 years old.[2] The earliest evidence for fist fighting with any kind of gloves can be found on Minoan Crete (c. 1500–900 BC), and on Sardinia, if we consider the boxing statues of Prama mountains (c. 2000–1000 BC)

ReplyDeleteIt's so funny that people see Lil Floyd and they see how successful he is and his ability to do what he does, but Floyd was able to do that stuff at 5 or 6 years old. That's why he's so good. I would tell anyone that was in an ear shot of being able to hear me that my nephew is going to be one of the best fighters ever to put on a pair of gloves; forget about Ali, forget about Ray Robinson and forget about all of them. He might be better than all of those guys. I saw it. I saw the potential at 6 years old. He was like a phenom. He was further than...it's kind of like if you seen a young Sammy Davis or a young Michael Jackson. You knew something was special about that kid because he wasn't like everyone else,' stated world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather as he recalled the early foundations of his family's history in the sport. In this unique series, relive tales about members of the Mayweather boxing family and gain insight into the legacy of the first family of boxing.
